Lansing Board of Education Moves to Hire Interim Superintendent
LANSING - The Lansing School Board has moved to hire Mrs. Yvonne Caamal Canul as interim superintendent for the Lansing School District. The board of education determined at its regular meeting on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, that it was essential to the forward motion of the District to put in place an administrator to assist with vision, budget and academic transformation as the board moves through the process of searching for a permanent superintendent. Effective March 1, 2012, Dr. T.C. Wallace will be placed on administrative leave to allow for transition of administrative authority to Mrs. Caamal Canul.
Mrs. Caamal Canul comes to the position of interim superintendent with a wealth of experience in the area of curriculum and academics. She's managed multimillion dollar budgets at the Michigan Department of Education and has been a long time member of the capital region. Mrs. Caamal Canul is a former administrator in the Lansing School District, serving as Director of Bilingual and Migrant Education, Principal of CLCCA and Director of Curriculum.
"We're very pleased to begin the smooth transition of administrative authority in the Lansing School District. Mrs. Caamal Canul's presence in the role of interim superintendent will allow the board to focus on hiring a permanent superintendent and crafting a vision for the Lansing School District, " said Board President Myra Ford. "By hiring an interim superintendent, we guarantee a consistency in administration so that the children of our district have someone in place to make decisions during this crucial time for the district," continued Ford.
The board officers will engage in contract negotiations with Mrs. Caamal Canul over the coming weeks and the transition process will be complete by March 1, 2012.
